A lot of Los Angeles apartments suffer from the same woes: there’s no place for your friends to park, and there’s no place for drones to land. Luckily, one condo downtown will offer a drone landing pad.

TEN50, a condo being developed by Trumark Urban at 1050 S. Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, will feature among its many amenities a landing pad for packages being delivered by drone. This is apparently the first landing pad of its kind, Curbed LA reports.

Drone deliveries might seem pretty futuristic right now, but they’re probably not too far off. Amazon just received approval to test their drone delivery methods in the U.S. However, Amazon is also pretty upset about how long it took the FAA to give them the thumbs up, saying that the FAA was so slow to do so that the drone model they were approved for is now obsolete, Forbes reports. Meanwhile, a startup in San Francisco is promising to drop off prescriptions and sundries via drones to residents in the Mission.

TEN50 will contain 151 one- and two-bedroom luxury units in its 25 stories. According to a release, the condo will also have a lounge, a pool with cabanas, a spa, a fitness center, a yoga garden and screening rooms. It’s expected to be finished and possibly receiving drone deliveries in September of 2016.

Curbed LA: “South Park Tower Will Have “First-Ever” Drone Landing Pad”

Wednesday, March 25, 2015, by Bianca Barragan

Ground broke last week on developer Trumark Urban’s 25-story condo tower,Ten50, at Grand and Eleventh, and at that event developers announced that this high-rise would have the “first-ever” drone landing pad. According to a press release, the drone dock was envisioned for deliveries. Amazon recently receiveda green light to test drones outdoors and will eventually, inevitably use them some day in the near future to deliver Amazon Prime impulse buys and groceries to homes and offices. Not wanting residents of the building’s 151 units to be left behind in some FedEx dark ages, Trumark is going to put a special “landing spot” on the tower’s fancy sixth-floor amenity deck.

This project’s lucky to be alive, let alone outfitted with ridiculous amenities. The project formerly known as the Glass Tower languished for years, getting jerkedaround until about four years ago, when its lot was listed for sale with entitlements. Within the last 12 months, it’s been revived, had its designs tweaked, broken ground, and is looking toward completion in 2016.
